Tell the truth. If you are still required to do it, do what you can.
Depression is really hard to get away from. You have to go against everything your mind is telling you (i.e. I’m tired, I hate myself). The best way to combat depression is to stay active, the one thing we don’t want to do when we’re depressed. And yes, I do know how it feels. I was diagnosed when I was an undergraduate and had to retroactively withdraw from a semester of school I had failed due to the depression.
I know you don’t want to hear this, but you need to get yourself busy. Activity is one of the best fighting agents we have against depression. I would go ahead and do the performance, no matter the outcome.
Please, please, please talk to a counselor or therapist if you haven’t already.
